A rare schill: Raw Minerals

In a surprise move, a shallow post: today I'm writing about makeup.

It's very clear, once one detaches from the keyboard, that I am not one of those posh and polished girls. I hardly ever wore makeup in college. I'm not wearing makeup now, given that I was running late this morning. But I had to rave a little about the stuff I've been wearing for the past couple of weeks, because for the inexperienced and the indifferent, it's fantastic.

I found out about Raw Minerals through their many internet ads and a little word of mouth. "Free 30 Day Trial!" the ads proclaimed, and I thought to myself, "Self, you can't beat that very easily. Especially being the broke and miserly girl that you are." So I coughed up the five bucks for ground shipping and waited for the box to arrive (it came slowly). Eagerly I unboxed all the little jars and pulled the (quite nice and yours-to-keep-free) brushes out of their plastic wrappers. I followed the directions, first moisturizing, then dusting the stuff over my face. Result: a dewy smooth glow unlike anything my limited skills achieve with regular makeup.

Ever since I got back from India, my face has been prone to breaking out in a way it never did when I was a teenager. Normal makeup seems to aggravate this, but the Raw Minerals stuff doesn't. It hardly feels like makeup at all, and even at the most obvious, it doesn't look cakey like my usual foundation does, so I'll never be mistaken for an out-of-her-depth sorority pledge. Best of all, it seems to be repairing my skin. Outlandish! Delightful! What kind of makeup is actually good for your face?

The two tones of powder blend right into my fair/light skin, evening it out without the need for concealer, and the blusher/bronzer that seemed outlandishly dark is actually quite flattering. I like the idea of a powder with an SPF of 20 that goes over my SPF 15 moisturizer and evens out the glow if I apply too much bronzer. The brushes are great, with the added benefit that I feel like an old-timey dame as I dust the "Active Veil" powder over my nose and create the illusion of cheekbones with the "Mineral Glow" blush.

I'll probably be sending back the little pots of skin-colored powder once my trial is over. While I can afford $5 for 30 days of glamour, I probably can't swing $40 per month (or $60, which my email promises is a special members-only deal). However, if I do get a little extra cash in my pocket one of these days soon, I'll probably swing for another batch. RawMinerals stuff isn't sticky or runny; it's not heavily and bizarrely perfumed; and it actually kind of makes me look forward to putting on makeup despite the little voice in the back of my head that tells me I'm betraying my liberal arts education.

So how about that?

Verdict: Hokey names, great products.

  1. Found this on the real RAW minerals web site…www.RAWmineralsCosmetics.com….Sounds like Raw Natural Beauty up to their old tricks…or is that Intelligent Beauty, LLC, or Signature Raw…who are these people…someone needs to stop them before they give that genuine Christian Comapny a bad name……..

  2. I also decided to go check out their products and am also in the 30-day trial. As much as I do love the products as well, I too will return them before my trial ends because I don't wanna get stuck with an auto-delivery system and get these products every two months - who uses that much make up anyway? Not me. But I'm trying to find where to buy them because just like you, I think they are great. And, according to the cosmetics database, they are very low hazard. Besides they use are good for the environment, natural minerals and recycled material for their packaging. Anyway, liked your post.

  4. Well I fell for the free stuff alright. Three free brushes which are really nice and 4 jars of mineral powder just to try out. Very expensive! Good product but who needs that much makeup really? Four layers and a lot of brushing this powder as I see it. Also, every 2 months running up your charge account so you can be genuinely beautiful but very broke. It started out as an exciting deal right?? Such adorable tiny pots of powder which only cost you $90.00. Wow, what a deal! You pay for the trial products and get charge only $59.50 plus s/h every 2 months after. Thats around $360.00 per year not including s/h.. Holy Cow! Well, its a BIG 30% savings when you become a member right?? At present, I am trying to find the RMA number to return my trial products. Guess what??? I can't seem to get this RMA number. I went to the website but they haven't acknowledge my username or pass. They won't accept returns without the RMA number. I'm not guessing when I say; "Ooops this isn't going to be as easy as getting involved in this great trial offer". Oh Well, its been a very enlightening experience. My Mother always said, "One has to actually suffer to be beautiful". I think I finally got her drift!

  6. RAW Minerals is great makeup. After using Lancome more than 30 years, I began having acne breakouts at age 69. I read about RAW Minerals and decided to try it and did. I've been using it about 6 weeks now and the breakouts have cleared up and I look better than ever. Folks take me for somewhere in my 50s. Can your makeup do that for you when you are 69? As far as the auto-delivery issues mentioned, I have my deliveries set for every three months and can increase that time span if necessary. I have no trouble managing my Signature RAW account and get discounts on skin care products and other makeup items they offer. This is makeup like your own skin only it makes it better.

  7. Just wanted to let folks know you can get the same quality product for much less at everydayminerals.com. I am not affiliated with them in any way - just a happy customer. They have free sample kits that you can order, just pay for shipping. No strings attached. If you like it, (and you will!) then you go back to their site and buy what you want, when you want it. It's a store - plain and simple, no club or membership, no monthly shipments. Foundation runs for $12 a pot and you can buy a mini bronzer for under $4 I believe... those two items are all I use, I wear it daily and that $16 lasts me for at least 3 months. I'm just saying. Check it out :o)

  9. Hey,
I ordered raw minerals make up July 17, and have yet to receive it. When I got the confirmation number, I also got a 866 number to call if there were any concerns. When I called the number to check on the status of my order, a recording said it was no longer a working number. I feel a little nervous and a little dumb, for ordering from a company that I really know very little about. I will try to call the number that your brutal honesty gave. Wish me luck!

  10. Unfortunately I love the this makeup! However, I have moved and cannot locate the return info either. Does anyone have a valid phone number to contact them? I cannot seem to find this information -only a website for the free trial which I already have done. I'm now past my thirty days, and would like to cease further shipments.

  11. I just ordered Raw minerals July 22, they haven't got here yet but they had sent me a "order shipped" email with a valid fedex tracker ID. which I check repeatedly, lol. I really hope I like the product. I've used Bare Minerals before and was not very pleased as it doesnt have enough coverage for me, which RAW promises to have. Personally I dont have a problem with the cost if it does what they say it will.

  12. Hi All,

I fell for the I guess fake RAWMINERALS company (thinking it was RAW Minerals) and am out of $90 for my ignorance. I saw ads on TV and even sample supplies in Linen's and Things so I thought the product being offered for free - just the cost of shipping and handling, about $5 was a real and inexpensive marketing idea. I thought I'd get a small amount of product - just enough to entice me into buying more of the product. But I was extremely wrong and ended up with a sizeable amount of poor quality products in which I was charged a hefty price, because the ad said "free" and not "trial offer." The old bait and switch trick is still around and doing well I'm sad to say. I'm even more sad that I fell for that terrible trick and I'm writing this info so you and others won't fall for the same costly trick. Well I got charged $90 two weeks earlier than the 30 day "trial offer! To make matters worse you don't find out that the make-up you receive is a "trial offer" until you receive the package.

The Raw Minerals make-up I thought I bought was from a different company called Raw Natural Beauty - Raw Minerals make-up. The product is slightly pungent in smell and is can stain your clothes. Yep I found out that the hard way! On top of that the "free brushes" are terrible. They really have a strong chemical smell and do not apply make-up as well as cheap store brand brushes.

Why did I fall for this trick, well it's simple. I wanted to try Raw Minerals to see how it differed from Bare Minerals by i.d. a product I use and really like. Well one company is fraudulent and the other company has a good product at extremely good prices. And my clothes don't get stained. Bare Minerals, the "introduction package" which I paid $60, broken down into 3 payments of $20 each, has lasted exactly 6 months. That's $10 a month and no cheap store brand make-up nor expensive department store name brands or spa brand make-up can compare! No other make-up I've tried can last as long nor make you look so beautiful with so little product or so little time. Now when I'm doing housework or am staying home because I'm feeling sick I'm not putting on make-up. As a matter of fact I hated make-up before trying Bare Essentials - Bare Minerals. My skin is clear and smooth looking. My "crows feet" are not visible when I'm wearing Bare Minerals and I don't have oily pimple break outs when using this make-up. So I use make-up almost everyday which is something I haven't done since my college and early carrier days. I'm over 40 years old and this was my birthday present to myself and it was the best think I've done besides losing weight.

Now I'm not a spokesperson for the company, but when I saw other women falling for the same trick and I also saw there was a real company, but that I had not made a purchase from it, I had to speak out. Maybe one day I'll buy one of the packages from Linens and Things, but for now I feel too burned to give another product a try for a while.

So if you want a truly "natural minerals" type of make-up be sure you are buying it from a good company. I guess the old saying of "nothing is for free" is true. And in my case no make-up is better than smelly, bait and switch expensive make-up from a company that's trying to use an honest company's name to swindle you out of lots of money!

  14. I too wanted to try the Raw Minerals... But after reading through this blog, I tried the Everyday Minerals, as someone here suggested and Thank You for that.. I am 42, sadly it's beginning to show. LOL I don't wear make up generally,, but have found at times I do want to wear a little, weddings and such... I LOVE Everyday Minerals.. Beautiful product. Highly Recommend, with no sales pitch to their products, no strapping the credit card for $90.00 every 2 months, make up can last me years! LOL Anyhow,, I did find a number for Raw Minerals, they sent it to me via email when I signed up to test their product,, 866-276-7418. And when you call,, raise a stink! You have a credit card receipt! All you need is that piece of paper. You may want to suggest to whomever hassles you on the phone that you will make a formal complaint about the company to places such as Better Business, and Consumer Reports. Bet you get opted out then. And fast!

  15. It is 3 days short of a month since I ordered from raw natural beauty. I have yet to receive it. They were kind enough to let me know that they have finally shipped it. But to my surprise (yeah right), when tried to check the confirmation # (that they gave me) with the U.S. postal service, they said they had no such package with that conformation number. JUST AMAZING ain't it (not really). They are supposed to charge me $90 on the 17 of August, just in case I run out of their fabulous product. I need to see if they have already charged my account. I see some other mislead person got charged 2 weeks early. I probably did too. My husband is in the military. He left July 9th and wont be home until July 22nd of next year. He really doesn't need to worry about me blowing his paycheck or mine on stupid crap like this. Sorry to rant and rave, but this was just add B.S. that none of us needs. I will let you know what happens next.

  16. My product trial size was too light- so obtained my RMA number today and noticed that you need to return the '7 items of the Discovery Kit'. HUMMMM? weren't the 3 brushes your's to keep? Apparently not! Watch out. It looks like alot of people are paying alot of money for three cheap brushes over time.

  17. They're still at it and I fell for it.

I had tried mineral-type makeup and liked it. I thought I would see what their product was like. Little did I realize until I got the package and read the info that I would be charged $90.00 for the free trial! I waded thru the site, got my RMA and sent it back, completely untried, two days after I got it. I found out I had to return the stupid brushes, too, which I believed were a free gift for trying the makeup.

I am fortunate that it only cost $3.70 for me to ship it back. At least I was only out less than ten dollars.

    What a rip-off!

  18. I just ordered the "free trial" from Signature Raw.... did I just make a huge mistake? SOMEONE TELL ME! Because if I did, and my dad suddenly finds a charge of 90.00 on his account in two months, or before the stuff even GETS here, he's going to freak out and think I planned it all or something.

So what's going to happen to me?

    ReplyDelete
  19. For heaven's sake, people, read the fine print when you sign up for this kind of offer. It's not a rip-off. It's just that you have to follow all the instructions if you want to cancel the automatic billing. And yes, you have to return the brushes too.

But it's not really fair to complain when you didn't pay attention to the terms.

My girlfriend says she likes the products, by the way. She found the offer here: Raw Minerals free trial. There are a few others worth checking out on that site too: free beauty samples. Cheers!

  22. I found Raw Minerals at the fashion show in Las Vegas and bought their foundation and brushes, what sold me on the products is the fact that it’s a great fit for prone acne skin which I’m suffering from and the lady told me it is going to cause my skin to repair and look and feel healthier.
I spent over $100 on this makeup and was really excited to use when I get home.
After using it for over two weeks I was breaking out badly and decided to stop using it and continue using micabella cosmetics, their products never caused any breakout before and I was overall happy with their line, another thins is they have mineral eye shadows which I could mix with other ingredients and could create matching lip gloss, nail polish or hair highlights.

They also have a new skin care line http://www.micabella.com/ that I’m thinking of trying soon.
As far as the price I guess you get what you pay for but I got my foundations and additional eye shadows on http://www.neobuys.com/ which offers the products at a more affordable price. I also found http://www.cartnkiosk.com/ that offers their products but they don’t have all the micabella line available.

I'm going to try to post more about their skin care as soon as I get my hands on it.

  23. I got suckered into it too! Took a LOT of searching to find that customer service contact info to return the stuff. So from now on my motto is NO AUTOSHIPMENTS OR FREE TRIALS! After returning the RAW stuff, (which itched terribly cuz of the bismuth in it) I PAID for some samples from L.A. Minerals, and used their free shipping coupon. I ended up LOVING their makeup and my $30 kit with a full size foundation , Veil, and concealer has lasted me 6 months!
I would definitely recommend them. Their products are more natural than RAW and no bismuth, perfumes, or other gucky junk. Best part is NO AUTOSHIP! YEAH!

  24. Well, Kathryn, regarding your comment in here, I am 49, not 69, so I can't say if "my makeup" will have me looking somewhere in my 50s in 20 years. What I can say is that at 49 I regularly have new people thinking I'm 30-35, but I don't use "mineral makeup". I've never in my life used foundation fake-up, have used lipstick a handfull of times, and use eyeshadow just now and then as part of "dressing up" for a date or a fun night out.

The fact of the matter is that fake-up harms skin, and the only reason women wear it as if it were just another item of clothing is because someone male back in the 1930s decided plucked eyebrows and heavy fake-up = female beauty, and if they got a few celebrities doing it they'd make a killing.

    They were right.

  25. Oh man, I just tried this too but mainly because I am a beauty consultant for both Jafra and Avon... Yeah I love make up. Anyway, being an honest sales girl, I wanted to really try the competition since both Jafra and Avon have great Minerals. I want to get to the bottom of what's what and what's better, easier, etc. I think I am gonna report my card stolen if they don't accept my return. I wouldn't spend more than 25 bucks (since avon offers theirs for that much)

Ok and shameless plug, not going to link, but if anyone gets curious to try stuff, send me an email at Syren@SyrenFranco.net. I can help you find a Jafra or Avon lady near you if you are too far or I'll ship you free samples... won't even charge shipping and handling lol.

  26. I did it too! AGGHHH! I ordered the RawMinerals "discovery kit" for $4.95. I was curious about the minerals because I wear and sell a mineral makeup called Youngblood. I wanted to try out the competition and I thought some extra brushes would be nice too.
Wow, what a slap in the face. The brushes are super bad synthetic material and they have strong plastic odor. The kit isn't a free sample, as we all know now, it's a 30 day trial that costs you $90 at the end of 30 days. But you don't know this unless you read the bill.
I believe the 30 days starts as soon as Raw ships it and that is why some clients are getting charged the 90.00 even though they return it promptly.
To return this product you need to log into your account on the glow webstie to get the RMA number they need so badly.
They don't give you too much of a hassle from there. They just ask a few questions about why you are returning the product and then offer you an extra %60 off.
I'm returning everything from the stinky brushes to the brochures, just to be safe. They wanted me to return 7 items but I was only sent 4.
When I ordered Raw, I did look for small print but it was well hidden because they got me and many others.
I never even tried the product. I don't want to give my time to a company that scams me the first chance they get.

  27. For those of you dealing with fraud, you can write letters. I've had to do it in the past, here was the formula I nearly used for a phone book company. Once I made it clear I was going to write these letters they resolved their $2,000 bill with me quick and clean. When dealing with the company keep records of everything! Every call you make, numbers, who you talked to, what they said, etc. Free trial must be free. Ability to return, stop payment, etc. must be made possible--if not, it's fraud. Here's the unaltered list for the process I would have used with the phone company in the San Francisco Bay Area (you will have to do it for your local area--not California where I am). It is, unfortunately, a multi-step process so I suggest getting in touch with them and letting them know you are going to out their fraud.

First contact the two TV stations hat have fraud investigators. 7 on your side and Anna Werner. (email)

Second, contact the Chamber of Commerce in the City that is sending the bills.

Third, write a letter to the Calif. Attorney General (Jerry Brown).

Fourth, write letter to City Attorney in the city or town with the headquarters.

Fifth, write a single strong letter to all the above with two points: Fraud, use the word fraud several times including the Re: Fraud line. Refer to your yourself as a young single woman running a one person business by-yourself.

Lastly, tell the Valley fraud people you have sent the 'attached letter' to the other legal and TV offices and you plan to take them to court for criminal action.

This will take you about two hours to get all the names and addresses, print out the letters and mail them. But that is how it is done.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sounds like class action lawsuit time to me... I read the "Terms and Conditions" portion of the fraudulent company's website; the gist of which set off alarm bells for me--it might as well have said:Haha--F-U...silly little ladies, we reserve the right to screw you out of your money, and we're not gonna be liable...

Well, I'll bet the State Corporation Commission, FTC,etc. (concurring with, echoing the 8/29/09 8:01AM poster's notes) will enjoy helping all you ladies out.

Having been similarly burned in the past, I immediately went to the Terms and Conditions portion of the site--just a future reference web-shopping tip. Two more Caveat Emptor tips while I'm thinking about it:always check for a legitimate customer service phone number and physical business address of the vendor from whom you are purchasing (it's worth the research, and shouldn't take too much effort); always check to see if there are any complaints against the vendor/company with the Better Business Bureau--better yet--are they a member of the BBB;lastly log onto a site such as pricegrabber.com to see if you are even getting the best deal.

You have rights; protect yourself--your identity and hard-earned money and peace of mind are at stake.

In post after post I've read I feel for you! Do not be daunted. Go Get 'em Gals!Don't let them get away with this fraud/scam/Theft!!!

  29. Such a helpful blog, i'm glad i did a google search and found this. I've been thinking about trying mineral makeup since i'm a performer and use alot of different things. I want something that will give me the effect and not make me look gross later =p haha
Anyway, I will avoid this "free" trial like the plague, check out the stuff on dermstore, and shop around for other mineral products.
my skin is really sensitive so the post about the makeup causing breakouts struck a chord.

Thanks for this ridiculously helpful blog!

  30. I just ALMOST ordered the 30 day trial but before I entered my credit card info, I did a google search on the company & found this website. I'm glad I did! I've been burned before & I just had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back, it was really easy. After that, I always do an internet search on a company before I do business with them to make sure it isn't a scam. Just a tip to help you all from getting burned again!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well, all the people tha are complaining are the ones who never seem to read the fine print. I always read the fine print and make sure I know what I'm getting into before I order a product. I ordered this product over the summer and I knew what I was really dealing with because I always read the fine prints on stuff like this.

I love the makeup. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. It gives me this natural glow and really brings out my eyes (I have really bad dark circles). My fiance loves it when I wear it and so does my mom. She says I look natural and it barely looks like I'm wearing make up (which is a good thing, of course without it it looks like my real face, but when I put the make up on I look flawless :]). So it's really good I love it.

After I received me first order and paid the $90.00 I called them after some time to cancel it because I wasn't going to keep paying $90.00 every 2-3 months. I called them up and the rep. said I could go and log on to the site and actually pick how often I wanted them to deliver the products. I put every year instead of every 2-3 months and they also lowered the price to $39.99 for me :]. So yay! I'm staying with them and receiving the product every year instead of every 3-6-or 9 months :]

  32. Mary this has been a greatblog and shows the power of the everyday person and word of mouth perspectives. I too have been using Bear Minerals for a year now adn saw an add on Pandora for RAWMinerials and googled this blog, at the bottom it has the RAWMINERIALS tm logo So thank you Mary and other women of the world for saving me from a 90 buck mistake. I do suggest looking into Bare Minerials they even have some outlits with in malls now! I've tried MK, Avon, and some Belks ones and so far for price and amount of time it last Bare seems to out rank the rest. And as far as the comments of Women and beauty I will be standing infront of over 200 freshman twice a week at a university so you better believe I don't want to have them trying to play connect the dots with spots on my face! I would rather them learn the power of marketing and the voice of one so THANK YOU Mary and good luck on all your adventures.
